Our Roots of Faith by Dr. Paul Corn
Reviewed by Becky Mushko
Dr. Paul Corn's book, Our Roots of Faith, might be classified as Bible stories for adults. His purpose in writing Our Roots of Faith was "to display the roots of Judaic-Christian Faith by reviewing the old, old stories which show the greatest efforts and costs expended to keep the faith alive." Taking a scholarly approach to the first five books of the Bible, Corn first retells each major story and then gives his own interpretation of the story.
"The Fall of Man" in Genesis, for instance, Corn classifies as allegory: "A literal interpretation could more likely lead to error and shallow insights about the nature of man, God, and their relationship."
Corn's scholarly approach is to be admired. Though some readers might disagree with parts of Corn's Biblical interpretations, his book is nevertheless thought-provoking and interesting.
